Mutation

Example

Harmful Mutation

The harmful mutation is called “chromosomal mutation” and it can affect the survival of species. For example, the snake with two head.

Neutral Mutation

It does not benefit the species but does not harm the species either. For example, human with different eye colour. Some people, or animals such as cats have different eye colours. One might be green and one might be blue. This can be caused due to the mutation, but it’s just the physical appearance. So, it does not affect the species when the survival of species are concerned.

Beneficial Mutation

Obviously, there are some beneficial mutations as well. For example, there was a boy who had the mutation with his muscle  gene in Germany. In our human body, there is a DNA which blocks a protein, however he had the mutation with that muscle DNA. This was the first time discovered with human body. Due to the mutation, he can lift 3kg dammbell when he became around 5 years old. If we can control this DNA, the human can have evolution and in the future, we might be able to build up muscles easier and quicker.

In the process of evolution, there should be some slight changes from the previous generation in order to cause evolution. If the allels stays the same, nothing will change in the future. The mutation is the only way to create new alleles that is necessary for causing evolution. The difference made by mutation might be too small for evolution, however when we look the mutation in a longer periods of time, mutation definitely plays an important role in evolutions.
